Tasty Tuesday: Apple Crip using Dehydrated Apples

So I have decided that on Tuesdays I am going to start posting some yummy recipes that I try. If you have any recipes that you think is a must try let me know I will be happy to try it out and also post a link that goes to your page. So here we go my first Tasty Tuesday!

Apple Crisp using Dehydrated Apples

A little back story as to why I decided to find a recipe using dehydrated apples. So my hubby was cleaning out our closet where we have our food storage and other junk. He noticed that we had not eaten all of our dehydrated apples. He opened the container and tried them and the apples had lost their crisp. I didn't want to waste them so I searched online and found a recipe. I figured if I re-hydrated the apples would taste fine. Let me tell you the results were amazing! This was one of the yummiest desserts I have made.

Now for the recipe:

Apple Crisp
4 cups dehydrated apples
8 cups hot water
½ C. Sugar
½ C. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
In a large sauce pan combine water, apple slices, sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes. Drain off liquid reserving about 1 cup to Add back to the apple mixture.
Ingredients for Topping:
3/4 cup of old-fashioned oats
2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash of salt
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (Optional)
Instructions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F Butter an 8 X 11 inch baking dish Place prepared apple mixture in baking dish. Mix old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl Add butter and rub into mixture until coarse crumbs form Mix in walnuts Spread topping onto apple mixture Place in oven and bake until topping is golden brown .(about 35-40 minutes)

*Side note...I had to cook mine in a toaster oven because my oven is broken so I piled everything in an 8x8 pan. Also we did not have walnuts so we did not use those. As an added bonus to my food storage usage I used rolled oats we had in out closet too :)

  2. Interesting! See I would put this with some ice cream and it would defeat the purpose of being dry! Looks good!!!
