Tasty Tuesday: Brownie Mush

I am so sorry I haven't done Tasty Tuesday in weeks! I haven't had much time to make anything from scratch. I did make my husband a dessert other than a cake for his birthday. One reason is because my oven is broken. So here is what I call Brownie Mush because even though it is layered we mush it all together before we eat it :)

Brownie Mush

What you need:

Brownie cooked and crumbled (I had to cook mine in the toaster oven)
Pudding (I used Jello Temptations with mousse.)
Cool whip

Directions:

Take half of the brownie and crumble it into a bottom of a large bowl. Next add some pudding or if you do the Temptations with mousse use all the pudding. Then add a layer of cool whip and another layer of brownie. If you are just doing pudding add pudding again. For this layer I added the mousse. Finally one more layer of cool whip.

My husband tried writing Happy Birthday with caramel syrup but it messed up. So we ended up with caramel also.

Tasty Tuesday: A few quick crock pot recipes

Today I will be posting some very quick recipes.

Very Simple Crock Pot Chicken:
Dump a can of Cream of chicken soup on top of frozen chicken breast. Set crock pot on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. Serve with noodles or rice.

Italian Crock Pot Chicken:
Pour Italian Dressing over frozen chicken breast. Set crock pot on low 8 hours or high for 4 hours. My kids love this chicken. We serve with macaroni and cheese and potatoes.

Crock Pot Pork Chops:
Put boneless frozen pork chops in crock pot. Cover with a family size can of Cream of Mushroom soup. Set crock pot for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. Once done serve over cooked egg noodles. So very yummy!

Tasty Tuesday on Thursday: Peanut Butter Snow Balls

I am doing Tasty Tuesday today because I had my 100th post Tuesday :)

Peanut Butter Snow Balls

So last Thursday for my lia sophia party I made these tasty little things. Oh so yummy! If you like peanut butter and white chocolate this is a great recipe for you. Also only 4 ingredients!

What you need:

1 cup of confectioners sugar
1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 pound white chocolate chips

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, peanut butter and butter; mix well. Shape into 1 inch balls and place on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet. Chill for 30 mins. or until firm.

Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave safe bowl. Dip balls in chocolate and place on wax paper to harden. Makes about 2 dozen.

* I double the recipe to make more when I have a little get together. I also love to make these and give them to my neighbors for Christmas.

Tasty Tuesday: Omelet in a bag

Omelet in a bag!

I am so excited that I found this. I know it looks kind of weird but it is awesome! I can't make a regular omelet to save my life. Just ask my husband. It turns out like a pile of mush! You can check out Show Some Decor because that is where this recipe came from.

So here is what you need:
  • 2 eggs per person
  • 1 gallon sized ziploc bag per person
  • your family's favorite omelet fixin's {cheese, ham, chicken, veggies, etc}
  • large stockpot, filled 3/2 with water brought to a boil. (I used a regular pot because I only made one for myself)
Directions
  • First lay out all your ingredients.
  • Then mark the bag with your name if you are making more than one at a time.
  • Crack 2 eggs for each bag then add what you would like as your fixin's
  • Each person zips their bag shut and mushes everything together thoroughly. The eggs need to take on a "beaten" appearance.
  • Open one corner of the ziploc bag and squeeze as much air out of it as possible.
  • Drop ziploc bags into pot of boiling water and boil for EXACTLY 13 minutes.
  • Use tongs to remove bags from water. Pull bag open carefully (they are super hot!) and tip omelet out onto the plate.
Very simple and yummy!

Tasty Tuesday: Make Your own Rice or Oatmeal baby cereal

Make your own rice or oatmeal baby cereal.

Picture and recipe taken from homemade ginger

Why oh why did I not look around before for a recipe for this? I have no clue. Better late then never right? I found this recipe while on Pinterest.

All you need is brown rice and old fashioned rolled oats (not the quick cooking kind!)
  • Grind the rice or oatmeal in the blender to make a fine powder.
  • When you are finished, you should have rice powder and oatmeal powder.
  • Boil 2 cups water and then add 1/2 cup of the powder. Whisk frequently for 10 minutes. Then, you are done!
  • You can save the extra powder for later.
  • When it's done cooking, it should be a fairly smooth cereal. You can add breast milk, formula and/or pureed fruit. If you feel the cereal is still a bit too thick, you could blend it once it's done cooking.
There are a few more tips on the site how to freeze it. Go here

Tasty Tuesday: Taco Chili

Today's Tasty Tuesday is a pretty simple crock pot recipe that I came up with called Taco Chili.

Taco Chili

Ok so I don't have exact measurements so please forgive me for that. I kind of just throw everything together in the crock pot and let it go all day on low.

What you need:
1 pound of hamburger cooked and drained
1 family size can of kidney beans
1 can of crushed or cubed tomatoes which ever you prefer
1 can of corn (do not drain)
1 packet of taco seasoning
*Sometimes if it is not spicy enough I will add chili powder to it.

Directions:
Easy just dump it all in your crock pot and turn it on low for the day. Because everything is already cooked you can warm it for as long as it takes to warm everything through. I find the longer you let it cook on low the more the flavors mix.

You can serve with tortilla chips. The scoops work great then you don't need to use a spoon. Also you can top the chili with your favorite toppings. We use cheddar cheese, salsa and sour cream.

Tasty Tuesday: Apple Crip using Dehydrated Apples

So I have decided that on Tuesdays I am going to start posting some yummy recipes that I try. If you have any recipes that you think is a must try let me know I will be happy to try it out and also post a link that goes to your page. So here we go my first Tasty Tuesday!

Apple Crisp using Dehydrated Apples

A little back story as to why I decided to find a recipe using dehydrated apples. So my hubby was cleaning out our closet where we have our food storage and other junk. He noticed that we had not eaten all of our dehydrated apples. He opened the container and tried them and the apples had lost their crisp. I didn't want to waste them so I searched online and found a recipe. I figured if I re-hydrated the apples would taste fine. Let me tell you the results were amazing! This was one of the yummiest desserts I have made.

Now for the recipe:

Apple Crisp
4 cups dehydrated apples
8 cups hot water
½ C. Sugar
½ C. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
In a large sauce pan combine water, apple slices, sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes. Drain off liquid reserving about 1 cup to Add back to the apple mixture.
Ingredients for Topping:
3/4 cup of old-fashioned oats
2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash of salt
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (Optional)
Instructions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F Butter an 8 X 11 inch baking dish Place prepared apple mixture in baking dish. Mix old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl Add butter and rub into mixture until coarse crumbs form Mix in walnuts Spread topping onto apple mixture Place in oven and bake until topping is golden brown .(about 35-40 minutes)

*Side note...I had to cook mine in a toaster oven because my oven is broken so I piled everything in an 8x8 pan. Also we did not have walnuts so we did not use those. As an added bonus to my food storage usage I used rolled oats we had in out closet too :)
